Our Hippotherapy Program...

Program 1: Weeks of April 1 - June 17, 2013
Program 2: Weeks of July 8 - September 23, 2013
**Daytime, Evening, & Weekend Hippotherapy Session Times Available
Each 30-minute therapy session is typically divided into 3 parts -- preparation before mounting, tasks on the horse, and then functional activity after dismounting.
Fees are $100for initial registration and evaluation(1-time fee) and $60for each 30-minute treatment session. Payment is due at the time of service. PonyTalk does not bill directly to insurance companies, so families must contact their insurance company to arrange for reimbursement of fees. We are willing to provide billing statements for families to submit to their insurance companies. PonyTalk is not a Medicaid/ Medicare provider.
**We know that weekly therapy payments can definitely add up, so if your insurance company will not reimburse you any amount for our services, please inquire about our "out of pocket" discount.**

If you are interested in your child beginning hippotherapy, please contact us. You will need to have your child’s physician sign our medical history form/release and also provide a prescription requesting speech therapy. We would be glad to send you the required paperwork and then schedule your child as quickly as possible.
Once we have your completed paperwork, prescription, and $100 initial registration and evaluation fee, our speech-language pathologist can schedule to evaluate your child in order to determine his/her speech and language needs. We will then work together to create a treatment plan specifying your child’s long and short-term goals. At the end of the 12-week program, your child will be discharged if the goals have been successfully completed or be re-evaluated to assess current functioning and given the option to re-enroll in the next hippotherapy program.
SAFETY is an important part of our program! Our SLP leads all treatment sessions with the help of 2-3 trained volunteers who perform the duties of horse handler and side walker. We require that your child wear long pants, sneakers/boots (no sandals or flip-flops) and an ASTM/SEI-certified helmet (provided by PonyTalk). Treatment sessions are held in one of our fenced-in rings. A “sensory” trail ride is also available for our use (weather-permitting).
